The Sweeny Police Department participates in the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program which is a nationwide, cooperative effort of city, county, and state law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crimes. Since its inception in 1930, the UCR system has been the most frequently cited national crime indicator. Approximately 16,000 law enforcement agencies contribute data to this system. This includes agencies at all levels of government and all types of departments, i.e., general law enforcement (federal agencies, state and local police and sheriffs) and special departments (school, university, transit, hospital, and other types of authorities and Indian tribes).
The Sweeny Police Department maintains a complete database of UCR data and information which is summarized and reported to the State of Texas and FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Section each month. Each year, the FBI uses this data along with data report by other states to publish "Crime in the United States."
